Community Radio Managers have been asked to be at the forefront of adhering to the ethics of journalism including writing factual information to avoid misrepresentation and getting involved in conflicts especially during this period of the general election process in the country.
This was stated on Tuesday August 11 ,2020 by the acting chairman of the Community Radio network(TADIO) Mr. Anthony Masai while opening a six (6) day workshop aimed at raising awareness on Media Ethics and Reporting on Media Ethics and Reporting on Conflict and Volatile Situations, a workshop held at the Kings Way Hotel in Morogoro.
Mr Masai said the training was very important and TADIO had a responsibility to remind them of the ethics of journalism but the implementation remains with the journalist him/herself, so it is important to follow ethics to prevent unnecessary conflicts.
“Every journalist has a responsibility to ensure that he or she adheres to the values of journalism as doing so will help prevent conflict,” said Masai.
For her part, Veteran Journalist and Facilitator of the Training, Ms. Rose Haji Mwalimu said every journalist has a responsibility to self-evaluate what he/she is doing so will help them to do their work more freely.
Ms. Rose added that journalists especially of this era some of them have been deviant in their writing so it is better to follow professional ethics to avoid conflicts.
The six (6)-day training organized by the Tanzania Development information organization TADIO with the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) brought together 35 community radio station managers from Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar .
