The President of Zanzibar congratulates UNESCO

The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council Dr. Hussein Mwinyi has commended the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for cooperating with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar in the renovation of the Beit al Ajaib building after its recent collapse.


Dr. Mwinyi made the remarks today at the State House in Zanzibar during a meeting with Tirso Dos Santos, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Representative. President Dr. Mwinyi told the UNESCO Representative that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar highly values ​​the relationship and cooperation it has with the Organization, so his move to support Zanzibar in renovating the Beit al Ajaib building is a great confirmation.


He explained that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar began taking deliberate action immediately after the incident, including the formation of a committee to investigate the cause of the collapse of the Beit al Ajaib building while he personally met with Stone Town Stakeholders to discuss the incident with a view to finding a solution. President Dr. Mwinyi advised the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to evaluate all buildings in Zanzibar’s Stone Town so that they do not continue to cause further harm.
