Speaking earlier ahead of the elections, Tirso Dos Santos, UNESCO

vote for leaders who will be firm, proactive but who will ensure they supervise
the secretariat for them to adhere to good financial management.
He reiterated UNESCO’s commitment to support the community media in Tanzania.

TADIO held its elections during its annual meeting held in Arusha for two days where
voting was done through a secret ballot where members got the chance to nominate
names for each post one at a time, before casting their votes.

UNESCO under its SDC Project supports 25 community radios as well as the
The network of Community Media in Tanzania (TADIO). The support is meant to ensure that people
in Tanzania, especially the poor, women and girls, have the capacity to make informed decisions
on issues that affect their daily lives based on access to relevant, culturally
appropriate, gender-responsive accurate information and knowledge.
The coverage of Community radio stations under the network is 74 percent
of the United Republic of Tanzania, with a total estimated population of 33 million people.
